Reports of brown water in Emmitsburg, MD

Reports of brown water in Emmitsburg started in October as residence woke up to find brown water coming out of their faucets.

The brown water In Emmitsburg has been an ongoing issue since October 2019 and residents are worried about their health and safety. The town’s commissioner T.J Burns gave a timeline on the issue but after Hydrants were flushed in both November and December the issue has persisted.

“We are currently investigating possible development issues in areas where the problems persist such as a Southgate and Brookfield,” Burns said. “The mayor has also reached out to the county executive’s office for assistance.”

Burns said Town Officials are currently investigating work near water lines the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) had conducted on without the town’s permission.

The towns residents were only compensated $3 dollars after being supplied brown unsafe drinking water.
